Safe Passage Pedestrian Tunnel Project

Thank-you to all community members who provided their feedback in relation to the pedestrian tunnel that runs beneath the Logan Motorway at Kingston, connecting JJ Smith Park to west Bega Road parklands.

Survey results highlighted lighting within the tunnel, was respondents’ highest safety concern and that improved lighting would contribute to increased feelings of safety among survey respondents.

Results indicated that there was a lack of support for the proposed anti-graffiti mural to tunnel wingwalls. Accordingly, this element of the project will not progress, with funds to instead be directed towards higher priority safety improvements.

Council continues to work with Kingston State College, the Queensland Police Service – Logan District, and Transurban to progress safety improvements to the pedestrian tunnel and surrounding space. Additionally, a series of Protective Behaviour Workshops were delivered to students of all year levels at Kingston State College during the first half of 2025.
